It´s that time of the year where most of the days are too hot and humid to decently enjoy a glass of single malt whisky. Nevertheless, the auction platforms are active and we keep you up-to-date. This is our round-up of the June trades.

First we have to apologize to those of our readers in the southern hemisphere. We are aware that it is winter time for you and we hope you truly enjoy your cold night´s dram!
 
We gathered the information of 3.674 trades this month, which is the lowest value since July 2016. Same holds for the average price per bottle, which was 314 Euros. However, 225 new whiskies were added to our whisky database too. We now track more than 21.000 single malt whiskies.
Traditionally we first have a look at our Whiskystats Whisky Index (WWI). After the WWI declined by 3,5% from February to April, it now turned the other direction and gained 5,3% in May and 2,9% in June 2017. It currently stands at a new all-time peak of 344 index points.

The Fabulously Expensive Fab50

Next up is our handselected Fab50 index. Last month we witnessed a tremendous price increase as the value of these 50 bottles climbed to 90.170 Euros. In June this selection of 50 single malts got even more expensive. Buying all those bottles would now cost you 91.000 Euros.
Two bottles responsible for this are the Talisker 25yo (1975) 2001 Release and the Talisker 20yo (1981) 2002 Release. Both these releases are as expensive as they have never been before. The 2001 Release was sold for more than 600 Euros. Over the past years the prices stayed at a level of around 450 to 500 Euros. Even more expensive is the 2002 Release. In June 2017 the price observations of two from the 9.000 once existing bottles average to 1.561 Euros.
Other bottles of the Fab50 collection that gained value in June are the Springbank 12yo 100 Proof, the Balblair 38yo (1966) and the Macallan Cask 1580. But not all of the Fab50 gained value. There is for example the Balvenie Rose Second Release. Last month we observed a new all-time peak for this whisky as it was sold for more than 1.800 Euros. Only one month later, 1.270 Euro were paid.

This Month´s Winners

Among the 129 distilleries for which we calculate an index, it is Aberlour that stands out this month. Our Aberlour index climbed by 2,5% to now stand at 174 index points. This brought Aberlour 6 places up our ranking to position number 59.
Also on the winning side is the Glengoyne 25yo (1972) bottling. About a year ago the prices stayed at 350 Euros. Now, in June 2017, they even went beyond 500 Euros. Similarly the Highland Park 18yo Lunar now trades for more than 600 Euros.

Worth Mentioning

We also want to mention the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival 2016 bottling. Seems like prices for this single malt constantly decrease. The latest observations from June even drop below 150 Euros.
The title “Comeback of the Month” goes to the Clynelish 28yo (1971) from Cask 2707. Until now, we only had one price observation which dated back to November 2005 and was 157 Euros. There exist only 285 bottles of this whisky, which might be the reason why it took so long until another bottle came on auction. This was now the case, and the realized price was 1.100 Euros.
 
We also want to have a second look at the Ardbeg Kelpie Committee Release which we added to our database last month. The trades of this month averaged to 195 Euros, which is 20 Euros more than it was in the last two months.
