Introducing Irish Whiskey Auctions

Irish Whiskey Auctions

Whiskystats now covers Irish Whiskey Auctions, the auction market leader for Irish whiskey. Historic results show that prices for Irish whiskey at Irish Whiskey Auctions often deviate significantly from other auction houses, creating new buying and selling opportunities.

With the addition of Irish Whiskey Auctions to Whiskystats, all current and historic auction lots have been mapped to the whiskies in our database. This mapping connects the auction lots not only to the price observations from other auction houses but also retail prices, as well as the Whiskybase ratings and reviews. In addition, Whiskystats members will receive email notifications when a whisky from their Watchlist becomes available at Irish Whiskey Auctions.

Irish Whiskey

It comes as no surprise that the most traded whisky brands at Irish Whiskey Auctions are from Ireland. Quite remarkably, Macallan, which is the most traded brand at all other tracked auction houses, comprises only 2.5% of all bottles traded in 2023. The most traded brand here is Midleton, which accounted for more than 17% of the exchanged bottles last year.

Irish whiskey brands dominate Irish Whiskey Auctions, while Macallan, the overall most traded whisky brand, only has a share of 2.5% of all bottles traded.

The second most traded brand is Redbreast, with a share of 10%. Jameson, Bushmills and Teeling, all Irish, of course, round out the top five. Almost two-thirds of all bottles traded in 2023 at Irish Whiskey Auctions are Irish whiskey. Aside from Macallan, the other most traded non-Irish brands are Glenfiddich and Hibiki, each with a share of less than 1%.

Irish Pricing

Analysis of the 2023 results shows that Irish Whiskey Auctions is undoubtedly the preeminent auction house for trading Irish whiskies and where the highest prices are realised. When comparing each individual auction lot’s result to the prices achieved at other auction houses within a +/- 15-day period for the same whiskey, on average, the buyer prices for Irish whiskeys at Irish Whiskey Auctions were more than 13% above the rest of the market.

The average difference in buyer prices for Irish whiskies traded within +/- 15 days across different auction houses.

The same analysis repeated for the other leading European auction houses shows that the only other platform where Irish whiskey is selling above the market average is Whisky.Auction. Irish whiskey sold at around market level in 2023 at Scotch Whisky Auctions, while market leader Whisky Auctioneer saw slightly lower prices. The lowest buyer prices for Irish whiskey are currently observed at WhiskyAuction.com.

The addition of Irish Whiskey Auctions to Whiskystats provides many new critical insights into the secondary market for Irish whiskey. These now newly available historical results enrich the whisky price histories, while the Whiskystats Auction Notifications will cover all upcoming auctions.
